Emotional discomfort is the active state of experiencing prolonged negative or unpleasant emotions such as anger, jealousy, fear, hostility, self-doubt or despair. While it's normal to experience some negative emotions from time to time, over time, pervading experiences of emotional discomfort can manifest into more chronic conditions and illnesses such as depression or heart disease.
No one likes to experience emotional discomfort. At Laprana, we recognise that true, lasting wellbeing comes not through suppressing negative emotions nor through diluting them with artificial drugs or medications, but through going to the root cause of the issue and attempting to resolve it at this level. To assist with the process of healing emotional discomfort some of the holistic strategies we employ are:
• Learning to identify unhelpful patterns of thinking that are often responsible for pervasive negative emotions such as black and white thinking and catastrophizing.
• Using guided meditations to cultivate self-love, forgiveness and acceptance
• Gratitude journaling
• Learning about mind-body health and the importance of eating for your gut and exercising to improve your mood
• The art of daily positive self-affirmations
• A handful of helpful yoga poses to relieve emotional discomfort
• Emotional regulating pranayama breathing techniques
By learning how to better deal with our emotions, not only do the negative thoughts and feelings eventually subside, but we often experience a natural expansion and empowerment that comes with self-growth and healing. For some, this may come in the form of improved health, outlook or purpose.
“Emotional discomfort, when accepted, rises, crests and falls in a series of waves. Each wave washes a part of us away and deposits treasures we never imagined. Out goes naiveté, in comes wisdom; out goes anger, in comes discernment; out goes despair, in comes kindness. No one would call it easy, but the rhythm of emotional pain that we learn to tolerate is natural, constructive and expansive… The pain leaves you healthier than it found you.” — Martha N. Beck
Note: External Ayurvedic medical advice and treatment by a certified Ayurveda practitioner is highly recommended for individuals with Emotional Discomfort to provide crucial dietary, lifestyle, herbal and detoxification assistance.

BPsych(Hons) & Registered Yoga Teacher
My aim is to improve the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of the individual using a holistic, mind-body model of wellness. I take a philosophical, person-centred approach as I work together with the client to uncover the underlying issue at hand. By identifying the root cause of an issue, I believe we can more readily achieve transformative, lasting wellbeing. Based on the premise that every individual is complex and unique; treatment is tailored and personalised to suit the particular physical, mental, emotional and social needs of each individual.
After completing my Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) at Queensland University of Technology, I travelled to India where I completed my yoga teacher training course. Since then, I have lived between Brisbane, Byron Bay and Melbourne, working both nationally and internationally to integrate my passions in yoga and psychology.
By layering and melding ancient Eastern Yoga philosophy with more contemporary Western models of psychology, the profound principles buried in each of them become clearer and stronger, and an intensity of effectiveness becomes possible. Using a synergistic blend of techniques from both East and West, I believe deeply transformative, whole-self healing is possible.
